Animals need wellness exams at different points in their lives. For example, a puppy or kitten should be seen every 3 weeks up until they are 16 weeks old for examination and booster vaccines. As an adult, annual wellness exams are recommended most often, but your doctor may recommend something different for your pet. Senior pets often need wellness exams twice a year since their health status tends to change more quickly. Ask our team at your wellness exam when your next visit should be.

There are many routine annual tests that can be done to evaluate your pet’s health. One of these would be having annual bloodwork done for your pet. Many of our pets will benefit from having annual bloodwork as getting annual blood values helps the doctor in identifying trending values for your specific pet. Just like us, each animal is slightly different so having these trending values helps the doctor in detecting subtle changes that may indicate a health problem early before it starts to affect your pet.

Another recommended test is a fecal (poop) sample which helps determine if your pet has any intestinal parasites. If you are able, please bring a fresh sample with you to your appointment. We can easily treat most of these infections with a deworming medication, and many clients choose to do monthly or annual deworming as part of their wellness routine. No single deworming medicine will treat every parasite, so it is important to determine which exact treatment is indicated based on fecal test results.

We also recommend your dog be on prevention for heartworm disease. To begin, we will need to do a simple blood test. Heartworm prevention medication can be administered in a monthly pill that your dog takes orally or in an injectable form administered twice annually by your veterinarian. Oral heartworm prevention medication also doubles as a monthly de-wormer.

Our experienced veterinarians perform many types of surgeries for animals, ranging from minor procedures to more intensive surgeries. With all surgeries, our focus is on safety and pain management during recovery to ensure your pet is as comfortable and pain free as possible.

Anytime your pet is under anesthesia at our facility, they will have one doctor and at least one highly trained technician monitoring them at all times. We carefully monitor your pet’s blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, heart rhythm, respiratory rate, oxygenation levels, and carbon dioxide levels throughout every surgery. Pre-operative blood work, IV catheters and IV fluids also improve safety during surgery, sedation and anesthesia.

Most people notice a foul odor to their pet’s breath as they get older. But dental disease can be much more serious than just bad breath. As dental disease progresses, it can become very painful to your pet and result in the need for extraction (removal) of some or even all of their teeth. Most pets will still eat normally even with severe mouth pain, so it is sometimes hard to know there is a problem without a thorough dental evaluation including oral (mouth) x-rays. They can develop significant infections in their mouths, and dental disease can contribute to other health problems such as heart disease and kidney disease. By doing routine dental cleanings, we can help lower the risk of your pet experiencing this kind of discomfort and illness.
